ST. LOUIS (August 25, 2008) – For the sixth consecutive year, Sister Mary Jean Ryan, FSM, President/CEO of St. Louis-based SSM Health Care, has been named one of the 100 most powerful people in health care by Modern Healthcare magazine. Sister Mary Jean was ranked No. 13 on this year’s list.
Others named to this year’s list include President George W. Bush, Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. John McCain. Individuals are ranked based on the number of votes they receive from Modern Healthcare readers. The top 100 most powerful list has been published annually since 2002.
Sister Mary Jean, a nurse, began her health-care career more than 45 years ago and has been president/chief executive officer of SSMHC for 22 years. She is one of a handful of nuns to still run a Catholic health-care system.
